Stockport station closures during October and Christmas 2025

STOP PRESS !

From Saturday 4 – Sunday 5 October 2025, the railway will close again  (click here for more details) to allow engineers to begin to reinstall part of the roundabout that sits on top of the bridge....

...there has already been major disruption to rail services and to vehicle and pedestrian traffic through Stockport for two extended periods in 2025 following Network Rail's major engineering work to replace a bridge that takes the Greek Street roundabout over the West Coast main line. The project will be completed in Spring 2026.

The first phase of work took place over the Easter Bank Holiday in April 2025, the schedule of the second period of closure was from 2nd August 2025 until the morning of 23 August 2025 (removal of old bridge and installation of new bridge), and now there is still more railway work required in October 2025 (see above) and over Christmas 2025. (dates TBC)

Passengers have been advised to plan their journey on the National Rail Enquires website (click here!), where they can find information about how their specific services are affected.
