Footfall at Chinley station in the year from 2019/20 was calculated at 129,220 and was the highest total achieved at Chinley since statistics of this nature had been compiled in the modern era. Between 2024/2025 the total number of entries and exits at Chinley was calculated at 128,746 - just 474 short of the 2019/20 figure!

The annual % increase in footfall at Chinley in the years from 2023/2025 is moreover the highest for any station on the Hope Valley line from Manchester Piccadilly to Sheffield.
