Encouraging active travel to school

Lots of schools encourage active travel to school, whether by safe walking routes or by bicycle. But as we reported on this website well over a year ago, in the case of people living in Forge Manor Chinley, convenient walking routes to school are not always safe and petitions to make them safe are often unheeded.

Walk Ride Greater Manchester (WRGM) have recently begun a walking and bike bus initiative which is well worth reading about.

What is meant by a 'bike bus'? Here's the definition given by WRGM

"A bike bus is a group of children cycling to school together along a safe, sociable route, led by a ride leader, with parents welcome to ride along. The Bike Buzz runs every Friday"

What is meant by a 'walking bus'?

A walking bus is the same idea on foot: children walk to school together with friends while parents come along. The Walk Buzz runs on the same Friday.

You can read more about it on the Buzz website through which you can also contact the project team
