How to use Chinley station car park with RingGo. Do I have to pay via a smartphone app?

How do I pay for car parking at Chinley station? Is there a machine where I can use cash or a card ?

Can I park now and pay later?

Must I use an app on my phone? What happens if I don't have a smart phone?

The notice posted by Northern at Chinley station has details of payment by app, and does give a phone number 0113 809 0070

CBTG contacted RingGo via their website, bypassed the Chatbot and 'chatted' with an adviser. Here are the answers to our questions

  • You cannot use cash or a card at a machine at Chinley station
  • You cannot park now and then pay later or you risk incurring a fine. You must book/pay in advance for your parking. Charges are quoted on the Northern website here
  • You can pay without using a smart phone - but you must set up an account with RingGo - you can use the automated payment line on 020 3046 0010 to book parking.  See also the phone number given above
  • On a computer at home, you can login to myringgo.co.uk to set up/view an account. The account number is your mobile number  - you need to add a password to the account.

CBTG also asked about RingGo's handling of personal/vehice/banking data. This was the assurance they gave:-

"RingGo is one of the UK’s largest processors of credit and debit card payments within the parking industry. The information processed during RingGo transactions is encrypted and managed in line with the highest levels of security.

RingGo's systems and procedures have been independently accredited by assessors on behalf of the payment card industry. This accreditation is known as PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry - Data Security Standard), and RingGo has achieved PCI-DSS Level 1 accreditation, the highest and most stringent standard available for UK-based card processing organisations. For more information and a list of PCI-accredited organisations in Europe, you can visit the Visa Europe website and find the list of validated service providers under PCI-DSS Level 1.

Our infrastructure also complies fully with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998, ensuring that strict confidentiality is maintained over all stored and processed data. Rest assured, your card details are always protected. Additionally, all user data is securely stored within the UK and is not transferred to foreign jurisdictions.

We hope this provides reassurance regarding the security of your information when using RingGo to book parking".
