Office of Road & Rail Statistics for Hope Valley line stations 2023/2024

Every year the Office of Road and Rail publishes estimates of the number of entries/exits & interchanges at each GB station. Chinley station comes under the East Midlands region.

Although geographically NW Derbyshire would seem to part of the NW region, Chinley station is categorised as an East Midlands station.

These statistics about how busy a station is (often refered to as 'footfall') are often crucially important when decisions are made by the DfT, Network Rail and Train Operating Companies about station improvements.

The website of the ORR has some interesting presentations about the statistics it gathers:-

Notes about the statistics from the compilers:-

These estimates are based primarily on ticket sales and are produced by Steer on behalf of ORR.

"Some cells are denoted as not available and are marked on the table with [x]. In the table this applies to either April 2003 to March 2004 data when there was no data collected, or to stations where there are currently no mainline rail services".
