The Institute of Mechanical Affairs' 2026 report on Mobility as a Multiplier: Unlocking the Economic potential of Inclusive Transport is of particular relevance to Chinley and to hundreds of other communities around the country where the railway cannot be easily accessed....

The ImechE report doesn't really tell us anything new - but it certainly rams home the case for a new approach by the DfT to Access for All

Section 1 :

"A modern public transport system should enable opportunity, growth, and mobility for all, yet
the UK’s network is not delivering for those who depend on it most. For too many Britons, it
acts as a barrier, limiting access to work, education, and community life, stifling productivity,
slowing progress to Net Zero, and costing the economy billions in untapped potential. "

Section 3 :

"Accessible by design - the engineering practice of building products and services so they
are usable by as many people as possible from the outset rather than adapting or retrofitting
them later - should be at the heart of a public transport strategy going forward."
