We often hear that bus services in the UK are in crisis and that better support and funding is necessary - so it's great to come across a bus company whose services seem to be right up-to-date with the needs of passengers, including those who would dearly like to take their bike on a bus !
The Peak District National Park and the High Peak in general would be very well served if the general public, commuters, leisure cyclists, mountain bikers ... could plan to travel from A to B by bike + bus, use their bike, and then take a bike-friendly bus back home.
Here's what Borders Buses in Scotland are already offering on 23 of their buses and on three services (X62 Galashiels to Edinburgh, X95 Edinburgh to Carlisle, and 253 Berwick on Tweed to Edinburgh).
This is what they say:
"We now have 23 New Bike friendly vehicles available with either 2-4 spaces for bikes. This enables active travel for passengers across our Borders Buses network.
At the moment there are three of our bike friendly double decker buses on our X62 service, Each of these vehicles has racking for four bikes (video) , all other bike friendly vehicles are single decker with racks available for 2 bikes"
