There is now a huge variety of documented walks starting from Chinley station.
The Steel Cotton Rail Trail has been created, walked and mapped by the High Peak and Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership in partnership with local rail groups, local volunteers and National Trust Peak District walk leaders, and the mainly flat walk from Chinley to New Mills Central station is routed via the Tramway Path, Goyt Way and canal towpath.
The route is clearly marked with distinctive Steel Cotton Rail Trail badges (see main image), and you can follow the route on the excellent pdf produced by the High Peak and Hope Valley Rail Partnership here
Our group has previously highlighted round walks from Chinley station - click here for a documented exhilarating hill walk to Cracken Edge and back
Finally in this part of the Peak District there are a number of excellent walks documented by the National Trust, often starting at Edale Station, but which can also be joined from Chinley station - the Kinder Scout round walk for example. Do take a map and compass though when thinking of a walk on Kinder Scout !
