We're still pushing for improved access at Chinley! Chinley station appeared on the DfT's May 2024 list of stations identified for the possible funding of improved access - the exact wording used by the DfT being :-
"these stations have been selected for initial feasibility work and if that is successful, will be taken forward as part of the AfA programme. This is in addition to stations already in the AfA programme or having accessibility improvements funded by other means".
Chinley station has already had two studies commissioned by Network Rail, the most recent one funded by S106 funds from the Forge Manor residential development. Both studies came up with feasible options for Chinley. Read the 2021 GRIP survey here
(You can also read here the November 2018 study as commissioned by Network Rail from the Leeds office of WSP Engineering).
The Chinley and Buxworth Transport Group has itself conducted surveys and questionnaires about people's experiences travelling from Chinley station, about their priorities and about their thoughts in general about local issues. The first survey was undetaken in 2011, a major survey was carried out in 2016 and the latest survey was carried out in 2024.
Better access for Chinley station has been local people's top priority for almost 15 years now!
